Ferrite Magnets (Ceramic)

Ferrite Magnets are the best value permanent magnet available due to an abundance of raw materials and economical cost of production. Also called Ceramic Magnets, they are ideal for creating a deep magnetic field inexpensively and have good resistance to corrosion, despite being rather brittle. They are preferred by many manufacturers due to their low cost when compared to other permanent magnets such as Rare Earth Neodymium, Samarium Cobalt and Alnico Magnets. Ferrite magnets are durable, cost-effective and suitable for many uses across a broad range of industries and applications.

Widely available since the 1950's, these high-quality permanent magnets are offered in several shapes, sizes and strengths. Ferrites can be used in temperatures up to 250 degrees Celsius. They are commonly used in magnetic separators, motors, water conditioning assemblies, music speakers, handicrafts, science experiments and varying other purposes.

Ferrite Ceramic Magnets properties:

Ferrite magnets are made from a composite of iron oxide and barium carbonate (BaC03) or strontium carbonate (SrC03) which is sintered by compacting the fine alloy powder in a die and then fusing it with heat into the solid material. Due to their high coercive force, they are classified as hard materials, as are other permanent magnets including Neodymium, Samarium Cobalt and Alnico.

The raw materials used to produce Ferrite magnets are readily available at relatively low cost, so they are the most common permanent magnets in use today.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
