Samarium Cobalt Block Magnets

The Samarium Cobalt Block magnet has spiked in popularity due to their high temperature resistance combined with their high magnetic strength. Rare Earth Neodymium magnets, while they have a great size to strength ratio, don't have a great temperature stability and therefore can't be used in high performance motors. Samarium Cobalt magnets thrive in this environment and are perfectly suited to heat affected situations.

Mostly used in accelerometers, these Samarium Cobalt block magnets are often used in aircraft and spacecraft as well as many other precision control systems. While they are brittle and hard due to the sintering process during manufacturing, they have the highest resistance to demagnetisation and outstanding temperature stability.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
