Uses for our electromagnet:

Glass manufacturers are often tasked with installing the usually heavy and fragile glass assemblies they have been ordered to make. They deploy electromagnetically enabled devices to engage the metal frames housing the glass sections for lifting, carrying and releasing the delicate cargo. This handling protocol takes place in the factory, in transit to the site and sometimes on the site itself.

Electromagnetic engagement enables those controlling these handling machines to determine precisely when to engage magnetic force by delivering an electrical current to generate a magnetic field and thus secure engagement with the metal frame. Likewise when the frame is secure, either for another process of manufacture or has been fixed off in its final position in the home or business, the electric current is terminated and so is the magnetic engagement. A permanent magnet would attract a metal frame housing a glass panel like vacuum suction, a sudden final grab. Release would be similarly clumsy and unsuitable for a material like glass.
